Artist Statement

My abstract work tells a story or recalls a memory.  The work may fuse the figure and elements of the landscape into the narrative.  The paintings and drawings may deal with grief, social injustice, or emotionally private life events.  My art may vary in subject from the recent flood scenes in North Carolina, container ships in Charleston, injustices in the 1960’s of prisoners forced to work in fields,  historical and contemporary depictions of the rural south and memories of modern life events including humor (tennis, water aerobics) as well as friendship and loss.

My artwork is an expression of personal memories and story telling, both real and imagined.  Figures and elements of the landscape are fused into my paintings and drawings in an abstract and expressionistic style.
